Olympic and professional athletes around the world use neurofeedback to help improve their game.
- Kirk Cousins- football player for Minnesota Vikings
- Kerri Walsh-Jennings -Olympic beach volleyball
- University of Notre Dame football players
- Italian World Cup Soccer Team
- Canadian Olympic Ski team
- Tobias Harris- basketball player for Philadelphia 76ers
The impact of stress, pressure, and competition that athletes face on a daily basis can result in abnormal brainwave patterns. Many athletes identify symptoms of anxiety, low frustration tolerance, distractibility, “choking” during competition, and self-doubt as target goals.
Through neurofeedback training, the brain can learn to self-regulate the targeted abnormal brainwave patterns to reduce these negative symptoms. Athletes often comment that this produces mental clarity and calm, improved focus while “in the zone”, decreased repetitive negative thinking, and more.
Peak performance requires many skills and conditions which includes:
- focus
- attention
- concentration
- memory
- emotional control
- practice
- knowing the subject matter, such as a musical score or rules of a game
People in high demand careers, business executives, athletes and those looking to improve their personal performance can achieve calm and focused attitude that leads to consistent peak performance.
Studies at Imperial College London have shown that Neurofeedback enhances the performance of musicians and dancers.
Opera singers, musicians and students have benefitted from Neurofeedback training to improve their performance, creativity and memory. Research has shown it to improve microsugical skills and reducing time on tasks by 26%.
Neurofeedback, brain training, can reduce performance anxiety, stress and the need for perfectionism.
Neurofeedback measures something that is happening in the brain and body with EEG technology and uses that data to develop a skill or change your performance in an activity.
Years of study have shown that addictions are anchored into the brain. The brain has learned to value the 'rewards' of the addictive substance and the feelings it provides with use.
People who use or have used:
- Alcohol
- Substances
- Excessive eating
- Sex
- Other habits including gambling and extreme sports
People use the above methods to manage their emotions and still don’t feel any happier.
We know that simply eliminating the substance – just quitting – does not eliminate the addiction because the urge for alcohol, drugs or tobacco may feel needed on a physical level.
Neurofeedback, brain training, helps a person resist unhealthy behaviours to cope with feelings of anger, anxiety and depression. This can treat the whole person, allowing a more fulfilling and richer life.
Symptoms of migraines are different for each person. There is a correlation between migraines and lifestyle, diet (coffee, chocolate, red wine, aged cheese, etc.), stress triggers and age.
Migraines from a head or brain injury can cause similar symptoms.
Almost all migraines involve some type of recurring extreme headache that lasts anywhere between 4 to 72 hours.
The most common symptoms include:
- Severe throbbing or pulsing pain
- Vomiting or nausea
- Sensitivity to light, sound, touch, and smell
- Blurred vision or temporary vision loss
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Difficulty falling or staying asleep
- Speech problems
- Exhaustion
- Lightheadedness
Migraines create an extremely high stress state in your brain and ultimately lead to severe pain.
Neurofeeback, brain training, creates new pathways and retrains the brain to better respond to specific triggers, which improves brain function and fewer symptoms.
We gently listen in on the brainwave activity. We process the signal by computer. Some frequencies we wish to promote. Others we wish to diminish. We present this information to the person in the form of moving pictures and music.
Eventually the brainwave activity is "shaped" toward more desirable, more regulated performance. The frequencies we target, and the specific locations on the scalp where we listen in on the brain, are specific to the conditions we are trying to address, and specific to the individual.
- birth traumas
- Childhood traumas
- traumas from adulthood
- PTSD
- disruptive behaviour disorders
- autistic spectrums
- brain injuries
- sleep walking and sleep talking
- teeth grinding
- nightmares and night terrors
- memory issues
- ADD or ADHD
- substance/ drug use
- anxiety
- depression
- exhaustion and fatigue
